Ain´t got the right tool? Just rip it apart!

I just saw this on ebay and can´t believe this guy really cut a frame apart and sells a crankset mounted in the bb shell. Have fun disassembling the bottom bracket...

Pedal Room Beauty: GT Pulse

Just stumbled across this beauty. Great frame and pretty neat equipment. Lacing the Dura Ace front hub radial is bold by the way.

Drop bars? Can´t decide...

As you may know I build up my new bike with Nitto Risers. I recently swapped them for a Nitto Drop Bar. Better? In terms of credibility for sure haha - I can´t decide...

Mavic Ellipse 2013

I just received the Mavic Ellipse 2013 wheel set.

It comes with a flip flop rear hub, 20 bladed spokes each wheel, all black and with clean modern look. The track nuts needs 40nm tightening when put on your bike...All City hubs (aka Novatec) need 33nm...

There was some critic against Mavic on the internet about their chainline which was for some years 45mm and has been reduced since 2011 - back to a standard chainline, the most hubs will give you: 42mm.

Here is what Mavic wrote to me about the chainline mythos:

"Dear Sir,
Thank you for your email and for your interest towards Mavic products.
Since the 2011 version of Ellipse, the chain line has come back to a standard 42mm, instead of the 45mm used on the previous version.
For any further information, I recommend you to visit your local Mavic dealer or contact the local Mavic distributor. All of these information can be found on the www.mavic.com
Wishing you nice rides.

Best regards,*****

Thanks for that!!! I don't need to question about that anymore!

Before you get you own wheel set consider the lockring problem: Mavic uses a proprietary lockring So your ISO/English (Shimano Dura Ace) or ITA (Phil Wood, Campa Record Pista, Miche threaded lockrings won´t fit.

You need to use the Mavic "Old French" metric 33x1.0mm (metric threads not Threads Per Inch=TPI) lockring:
in other words Iso/English lockrings are to small and ITA (ITA wouldn't even fit the threads while ISO/English does) lockrings are to big to fit - Mavic is kind of in between.

COG/SPROCKET:
ISO/English threading (1.37x24TPI) cogs/sprockets will fit the Mavic hub:

So good news is I can ride my beloved EAI 1 1/8 Steel Cog as I do on all other rear wheels - If you buy your Mavic Ellipse get your hands on an additional Mavic lockring (wont cost much) as reserve - one is included while purchasing a rear wheel - if you buy you rear wheel from second hand make sure to get that lockring or otherwise you have a hard time getting a new lockring since its not a big seller compared to other brands...

I let you know how they will roll when the darn rain keeps stoping!

Cinelli Mash Bullhorn / Cinelli Mash stem

Finally! Since the first pictures from the Cinelli Mash floated through the internet in 2011 I wanted to have the stem so badly... 2 years later I really did :) most expensive alu stem to date (not that I am into carbon stems at all...) - and its not even vintage nor NJS... but it is really beautiful...
picked up the really comfy Cinelli Mash bullhorn handlebar

Too round things up I will add some Cinelli Cork Ribbon and Cinelli anodized plugs for my Cinelli Cockpit.

Wrap it up!

Goldsprint 13 Classic - Done!

It´s been exactly a month today since I got my Goldsprint 13 Classic frameset. Initially I planned about 3 months for building up this beauty but  I just couldn´t stand it any longer. So here it is and it came out way more expensive but a lot nicer than I thought in the first place :) It rides like hell - very agile, very aggressive and the steel fork really balances the stiffness of the aluminium frame. So if you ride in Leipzig you´ll probably see me on this bike in the future. For more information take a look at my pedalroom.

Urban knitting protection

Mama knows best - protects you against the twisted noise it is making after some time - I like that a lot!

Work in progress

A lot of new parts arrived yesterday. Campy hubs and rims are going to be laced in the next days. Christian and Stephan at Fahrrad-Biela made a wonderful job in milling the head tube and bottom bracket shell. It was the first time I did that kind of preparation on a bike frame. Usually I skipped that step and assemble these parts by myself but as I am currently spending a lot of money on them I decided to give it in the hands of professionals. The wheels should be ready next week so there isn´t really much missing on the new bike (chain, toe clips, tires).

Farewell sweet Visp

I´ve sold my Visp yesterday. I´m sure I´ll miss it but it´s in the good hands of a friend and I hope he enjoys riding it as much as I did. There´s just not enough space in my flat for a fifth bike so it had to go. I´ve ridden this frame in quite a few configurations as you can see and the amount of sticker increased on a daily basis :D

Nitto Jaguar Pro AA / Campagnolo Omega

More new bike parts!!!

I´ve always wanted a Nitto Jaguar stem but in the past I was never willing to spend that much money just for a stem. Well as you see I´ve changed my mind - another wall that has come down now. And don´t you agree it´s a beauty? It´ll be the crown jewel on my new bike! Also arrived have my Campagnolo Omega Strada Hardox rims. It´s the clincher version and they´ve got 32 holes as I wanted which wasn´t easy to get. In fact only Suicycle Hamburg got them new to a reasonable price. As you see I´m coming closer to the finish and I can´t wait for it.

New vegan Brooks Saddle is coming

I always admired Brooks saddles but wouldn't ride one because of the leather issue. So I welcome the new vegan Brooks saddle - I registered myself as an official tester - and no this is not an ad ... I don't get a cent from anyone for this...

I hope I get one...

Official Apple Bike

Now that is ridiculous - there is an official Apple bike at the campus in Cupertino:

Simply a non-labled M3 Mixte from Public Bikes in the San Francisco.

Gathering parts for my new bike

The first parts for my Goldsprint 13 Classic have arrived and I decided to let you know what I am planning to attach to it.
This is what I´ve gathered so far:

- Campagnolo Record Headset
- MKS Sylvan Track Pedals
- Cinelli Duo Straps
- Euro Asia Imports Track Cog 19t
- Shimano Dura Ace Lockring
- Nitto Riser Bar 260AA
- Black Oury Mountain Grips
- Thomson Seatpost Collar
- Selcof Aero Seatpost

You also can see my old Nitto B123 Track Drop Bar that I added cause I might prefer it over the Riser Bar. Currently on it´s way from Japan is a Nitto Jaguar Pro AA stem that should arrive around next week and two Campagnolo Omega Strada Hardox NOS rims that I luckily got from Suicycle Hamburg.

Currently missing and to be ordered:
- Campagnolo Record Pista crankset 165mm 51t
- Campagnolo Record Pista bottom bracket
- Campagnolo Record Pista hubs (current models)
- San Marco Concor or Selle Italia Flite seat
- Continental Gatorskins 23c
- Double Toe Clips (probably BLBs or something like that...)
- NJS Chain

I´ll be keeping you up with updates. Now go out for some riding!

New Project - Goldsprint 13 Classic

Yes he´s got a new frame... again :D Last year in January i replaced my Charge Plug for a Cinelli Gazzetta and this time my cheap Visp Fixie is going to be replaced. It wasn´t really planned though, I just stumbled accross the Goldsprint 13 Classic frame about 3 weeks ago and instantly fell in love with it. And as I always wanted a Cannondale Track this frameset is really close to the original - 6061 aluminium track frame hand made by Colossi (the whole frame is basically the Colossi model "Al Colossione") and a 1" steel fork. The price of 399€ is quite a stunner in my eyes. It arrived today from Berlin and it´s amazing. I am planning to build it up with classic parts from Campagnolo and Nitto. More soon...
