audacity of the week

i just found this ugly thing labeled "Singlespeed,Fixie,Bahnrad,Fixedgear". someone is selling this shit on ebay for an enormous selling price of 1149€!!!! yes that is no joke. the description says it´s "limited" to 10 worldwide - haha this is so ridiculous... i don´t want to hope that there are more than this one and i don´t want hope that there are 10 people out there stupid enough to buy such thing. the pictures are hold in a stylish blackwhite to convey a more high-grade product. it is praised as a "handmade" new bike but it´s just an old crappy frame with shitty parts. the bikes doenst even has a chain on the pictures. and these "handmade" "limited to 10 worldwide" bikes have a delivery time of 4 weeks - haha...

but lets have a closer look to this crappy conversion. the frame is obviously not a roadframe not to mention a trackframe. the wheelbase is so long i could take a nap between the wheels. this is clearly a trekking-, city- or something like that - and not even a good one. it is equipped with the cheapest parts available. i´ll try to collect the prices togehter to see how much the seller has really paid for the build.

parts (taken from the official description):

700c "classic frame" - what ever a classic frame is, i can get you such a frame from the bulk garbage - i no way this frame worth more than 10€ - if you count the paintjob maybe 50

1/8inch wheelset - it´s not the eighthinch wheelset amelia cause the rims are´nt from eighthinch, you can get duch a cheap wheelset für about 100€ max.

Conti Ultra Sport tires - 10€ each = 20€

1/8 inch crankset - 40€

Miche-Pista Lager (bearing) - i guess that means it has a miche pista bottom bracket which has a 103mm spindle and the eighthinch crankset needs a width of 107mm - this bike really has a messed up chainline - 15€

stainless steel chain - wow how awesome is that!? everybody knows that "stainless steel chains" are even better than the izumi super v´s!! - 5-10€

FlipFlop (fixed/freewheel) - i think that shall be the description if the hubs - so wow thank you for all the infos about the manufacturer, bearings and so on... - highly likely novatecs or rebranded ones - anyway the wheelset is prebuild so who cares...

Brooks Swallow B354 - the only real nice part on the bike - 100-110€

1" aluminium headset - no manufacturer, looks cheap - max. 15€

1" SAKAE Vorbau - i know this stem i bought for a conversion for my sister 2 month ago - 15€ on ebay

NOKON brakecable - 10€

Vintage RaceStyle bars - !? what ever that means - max. 35€

new coating schwarz semigloss - what a waste of money and time - as mentioned under frame about 40-50€

Campagnolo brake - take a look where the brake is mounted! never seen that before! another hint that this isnt a roadframe cause the brake isn´t mountable on this bike - neither on the frame not on the fork! - 20-30€

a few other parts arent listed in the offer but all in all the parts aren´t worth more than a maxmimum of 500. and man thats a load of money for such a bad bike. wanting 1150€ for it is just a fraud! not just the buyer pays too much - he gets a bike that with a lack of manoeuvrability, safeness, reliability and off course style. unfortunately there are 8 available which could mean two were already sold... :/

to the guy who is selling this: put this load of shit up your ass!!

and to all newbies that want to buy a pre-build bike: first talk to people that have a clue, ask in forums, read blogs and reviews... - inform yourself so you can avoid getting screwed. the longer you wait the more you´ll be pleased with you new bike.

the solution?

we all know the problem of skidding through tires in a short time. schwalbe is bringing up a tire specially designed for skidstops - the "durano SKID". i´m sceptical but will definitely check them out.

official description:

"For Bikes without Brakes.

Specially developed for "fixie" bikes where transmission braking can lock the back wheel and is extremely tread abrasive. Durano Skid can withstand such "abuse" considerably longer than other tires thanks to its deeper and abrasion resistant tread. Its strong rubber-coated side wall also affords better durability."

ebay findings

found some stuff on ebay today.

92' Yamaguchi Pursuit Track Frame 57cm

F. Moser Pursuit Track Frame 56cm - we mentioned that frame in former posts - seems it changes its owner again

Carbon Frame - looks like Batmans bike

Paterilini Pursuit Track Frame

Spectrum Pursuit Track Frame

last of its kind: Leader 721 TR

oh yeah - new frame always a good thing...when I wanted to put a wheel on it, it didnt worked....mhhh yes. the drop outs are not equal...haha yes its a cheap frame, and its going o be a cheap bike... seems like it should use some hammer! I dont think its leaders fault, because until the frame arrives on my door it passes from a cheap asian country to leader, then to europe, then to a seller, then to me. obviously this is a fragile product, and I am sure not everyone is as sensitive as needed, this implicates the fat scratch on the left drop out, there must have been an accident. the colour is so sensitive, you get a scratch on it every time you hit somehing. I will see how long it will last!

leader stopped producing the V2 of the 721TR. sure for good. where I am located this V2 model was sold out everywhere, local shops and online: they will drop off with a new V3 in spring 2011 for much more money then now! lets see what will change!

uhmm coins?

this is a cheap conversion, and I am sure it is a winter bike for commuting. lame side of the coin.
interesting side is: he installed his fixed gear cog with Allen screws on a hub with a break disk reception... thats not new, it´s stuff you get from velo solo for example. But stop: break disk reception (aka mountain bike hubs with 700c rims) on an old steel lugged frame? wtf!

how fast can you go?

stunning...

strange but interesting

again spotted near main station. this guy got a strange bike. he got some power grips aka nowadays feet belts and rides it fixed. he was so kind to let me take a picture - thanks to the unknown stranger!

langster the 2nd

spotted today in Bremen in an industrial surrounding near main station. It appears that this specialized langster is homeless. its all rusty, got some terrible halo twin rails on it and has a cracked spoke in the rear wheel, freewheelin´ aye*

it´s getting tougher...

..riding with bikes these days. i´m already sick of it.

Hello Dexter Morgan

since I watched Dexter Morgan over and over again, I stucked at episode 7 on season 4 (Slack Tide)...he kills some innocent photographer which got some strange bike add/ or design on is pinboard.

what an awesome bag...

i really think this should be my next bag. the video shows some nice cycling in paris.
